isabelle's art
this is my art website. my work involves drawing, print and animation. i enjoy exploring the human figure and queer identities. i like using bright colours and mystical imagery to evoke questions of identity and background. i have been exploring how the figure moves, and how we choose to present ourselves to the outside world.

this piece, titled 'Calm in Palm', depicts a figure sleeping on a bed of plants and leaves. they are serene and closed off from the outside world. the use of ink and tonality naturally lends itself to the theme of ephemerality, which i have explored in depth in my art practice.

the fading ink represents how we as people will eventually fade away. the palm leaves reflect the life of nature, and how the earth will eventually outlive all humans. i wanted to express the loneliness that one might feel, despite being surrounded by so much life. this theme was also explored in my short film 'Confinement', which was made to document my lonely journey to university while in the middle of a global pandemic.
